Telephone Operator/ Receptionist





To serve visitors by greeting, welcoming and directing them; notifying company personnel of visitor arrival; contributes to maintaining a safe environment and operation of the telecommunications system.

To assist internal customers (staff) placing and directing calls received on their behalf.


Position Summary:

The Telephone Operator/ Receptionist provides support to the Company as the first point of contact with customers and other stakeholders. The Telephone Operator/ Receptionist will maintain a high level of customer service while exercising good judgment in prioritizing fluctuating demands and managing an influx of requests coming into the company via the telephone system.

It is expected that the incumbent has a genuine appreciation for and understanding of protocol, discretion and professionalism, is able to accept and assume responsibility, and has the ability to interpret and understand the information received and dispatch the same to the intended recipients.

In order to provide effective and efficient services it is expected that the incumbent will be flexible and maintain confidentiality, diplomacy and tact at all times.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Welcomes visitors by greeting them, in person or on the telephone; answering or referring inquiries.
  • Directs visitors by maintaining a directory of company employees; transferring calls and/or providing directions to visitors as necessary.
  • Contributes to the maintenance of security by controlling access to building via electronic locking system.
  • Maintains telecommunications system by following manufacturer’s instructions for telephone system.
  • Maintains safe and clean reception area by complying with safety procedures and rules.
  • Maintains the cheque register log and contact suppliers to collect their cheques every other day.
  • Maintains the container log.
  • Contributes to the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment by complying with company’s health and safety policies, standard practices, and programs in keeping with occupational health and safety legislation and regulations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.



  • Minimum of three (3) Ordinary level subjects, English being compulsory.
  • Minimum of six (6) months of previous experience in a similar position.



  • Ability to communicate in a warm, respectful manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to exercise patience.
  • Knowledge of the Company’s products.
