Are employers obligated to provide retrenched employees with outplacement services?
Outplacement refers to financial, career and/or psychological counselling and advice offered to displaced employees in order to prepare them for re-entry into the job market or early retirement. Employers are not legally obligated to provide outplacement services but it is a helpful gesture that will assist employees in coping with a difficult transition.
What is the minimum entitlement for vacation leave?
Once an employee has been employed for 12 consecutive months, whether or not classified as permanent, s/he is entitled to a minimum of 10 days paid vacation within each 12 month period.
What is an Assessment Centre?
An Assessment Centre is primarily a recruitment tool that combines various methods and activities such as simulations, case studies, individual or group exercises, and panel interviews to significantly increase the probability of selecting the candidate who is the best fit for the organization. Assessment Centres are usually recommended when recruiting for critical and/or senior positions, but it can also be used as a part of a succession management strategy to evaluate and develop employees for advancement in key positions.
What questions should be avoided during an interview?
Any question that directly probes for information regarding a candidate´s personal lifestyle including their family situation, age, marital status, religious or political affiliation should be avoided during an interview.
